Decision 6: The "All topics" page

Prepared 17 September 2026 by Viv Web Solutions · one page per decision so it can be forwarded on its own

The question

liveThe "All topics" page is a grid of 29 icons linking to topic pages, department pages and two individual resources. It is maintained by hand. We can keep it that way and fix what is broken, or generate it from the tree so it can never fall out of date.

What exists today

Options

Option A — Generate the grid from the tree our recommendation
  • 12 areas, each with its subjects listed underneath, one icon per area.
  • Cannot drift: add a subject to the tree and it appears here.
  • The introductory paragraph stays editable.
  • Loses the hand-picked feel; the two single-document tiles would move into their subjects.
Option B — Keep the hand-maintained grid, fix the two links
  • Zero change for readers who know the page.
  • Someone has to remember to update it when subjects change.
  • Stays out of step with the menu and the library filter.

What changes

Option A replaces the tile grid with a generated one; the old grid is kept in a hidden field so it can be put back in one step. Option B changes nothing beyond the two link fixes. Reversible? Both.

What we need from you

If we hear nothing before the next build, we go with the recommendation: the grid is generated from the tree. Reply to Kalman by email, or comment on the linked issue.
