The question
A topic page's sidebar can list a few hand-picked resources, or everything tagged with the topic, or a short curated list with an "all of them" link at the bottom. Town Meeting shows the trade-off: 133 resources carry the tag; the sidebar on draftthe draft page lists 7.
What exists today
- Nine hub pages have curated sidebar lists, chosen by hand in August.
- The other ~21 overview pages have no topic sidebar yet. But 26 of 28 pages already carry VLCT's own resource picks in their body (the "resources on this topic" lists written on Drupal). A script can turn those into the sidebar list, so staff prune rather than compose.
- Every tag has an automatic "everything tagged" listing (for example the draft's
/topic/town-meeting/), currently linked from nowhere.
Options
Option A — Curated list plus an "All 133 resources tagged Town Meeting" link our recommendation
- Readers get the editorial pick first and the full set one click away.
- The link is what finally connects the overview pages to the automatic listings.
- Curation stays a human job, seeded from the existing picks.
Option B — Everything, no curation
- Nothing to maintain.
- Sidebars of 100+ items on the big subjects; the best items sink by date.
Option C — Curated only, no tail link
- What the nine hubs do today.
- The automatic listings stay orphaned and the reader has no path to "the rest".
What changes
Option A adds one link per sidebar group and a seeding script for the 21 pages. Reversible? Yes; the link is a template change and the seeded lists are recorded so they can be cleared.
What we need from you
- Option A: curated + tail link (recommended)
- Option B: everything
- Option C: curated only
If we hear nothing before the next build, we go with the recommendation: Option A. Reply to Kalman by email, or comment on the linked issue.
